Impact That Matters
2024 marks a significant milestone for Grieg Foundation. Since our establishment in 2002, we have donated NOK 1.1 billion to initiatives that foster meaningful, lasting change.
From the beginning, our mission has been to contribute to a more compassionate and equitable world by supporting people and projects that make a tangible difference. Over the years, we have sharpened our strategic focus, working closely with dedicated partners to ensure that our support leads to sustainable, long-term outcomes.
It is the people across the Grieg Group companies that make Grieg Foundation possible. Their dedication is the reason we can create real impact—together.
We believe that investing in people is the most powerful way to drive lasting change. That belief shapes everything we do. We strive to unlock opportunity where it is needed most.
At the heart of our work are children and youth — particularly those facing adversity. We support programs that help them build confidence, discover their strengths, and take steps toward a better future — for themselves and their communities. Many of the projects we support offer safe, inclusive spaces where young people are empowered to learn, to grow, and to believe in their potential to shape the future.
Education
In 2024 alone, we allocated NOK 50 million to projects that expand opportunities for girls and young women, especially those affected by poverty, displacement, or systemic barriers to education. Through partnerships with organizations such as SOS Children’s Villages, CARE, Strømme Foundation and Amala Education, we support programmes that offer education, vocational training, and life skills. In Malawi and Tanzania, girls are helped back to school and vocational skills training in communities where they are the last to be considered. In Jordan, young refugees get access to flexible, accredited secondary education unleashing their potential and empowering them to be living voices of purpose, potential, and power.
Women´s Health
Supporting women’s health is vital—both for women themselves and for the well-being of entire societies. We were proud partners in the establishment of DRIV, a new center dedicated to improving health and quality of life for women at every stage of life. Our major contribution is funding to the Centre for Research on Cardiac Disease in Women and KLAR, the first Norwegian research project on women, menopause and working life.
Philanthropy and Beyond: Impact Investment
We view impact investing as a powerful complement to our philanthropic work. It equips us with additional tools to promote systemic, long-term change and support a more resilient and responsible global economy. By investing in organizations that unite financial sustainability with social and environmental goals, we contribute to progress in areas like gender equality, climate action, healthcare access, and inclusive economic development.
The power of storytelling and art
Our purpose is people — their lives, their challenges, and their potential. Storytelling is a powerful way to understand the real impact of our work. Especially when they themselves own and narrate their own stories. These narratives capture what data cannot: human experience. We use storytelling as a key to insight and as a strategic tool. Stories help us stay connected to the people and purpose behind everything we do, and they allow us to give voice to people that are often unheard.
Art is a cornerstone of a compassionate society. We believe in the power of art and music to bring people together through shared experience, emotion, and reflection. The Grieg Art Collection continues to grow with international contemporary works —particularly by leading female artists—who challenge, inspire, and expand our understanding of the world.
Our ambition is to continue to be a catalyst for positive change — one person, one project, and one opportunity at a time. A society built on care and connection does not happen by chance. It takes intention, collaboration, and persistence. We remain committed to strengthen our impact— through the people and initiatives we are privileged to support.
