Free leisure activities for families
Who: Stiftelsen Robin Hood Huset
What: Free leisure activities for families
Where: Bergen, Norway
Project period: 2025-2027
About the project
The family project at Robin Hood Huset organises free leisure activities for families with children. We have an open and free café for families every Friday during school weeks and organise free activities and excursions every Saturday during school weeks and most weekdays during school holidays. The activities are varied, including, for example, amusement parks, theatre, cinema, swimming, outdoor activity days, hiking, various museums, and much more. Careful planning ensures that participants do not incur any indirect costs during the activities.
We always provide food before or during the activities and cover entrance fees and transport. This means that parents do not need to worry beforehand or during the activity about ending up in a situation where they need pay for something. The overarching aim of the project is to offer children from economically or socially disadvantaged families in Bergen a varied, good, and meaningful range of leisure and holiday activities where they can participate together with their parents.
The goal is to provide families with a social meeting place where they can expand their networks and thereby improve their social situation. We have experienced a very large increase in demand in recent years, and we therefore unfortunately have to turn away many families each week.
With the support from the Grieg Foundation, we can nearly double the level of activities so that families will be able to participate more frequently than today. We will also be able to follow up with families far better than is currently possible. The support from the Grieg foundation will enable an increase from one to two activities per week during school weeks, an increase from 3-4 to 7 activities per week during school holidays and will strengthen the follow-up of families in the family café.
