ViteLyst

Who: VilVite - Bergen Science Centre

What: Vitelyst

Where: Bergen, Norway

Project period: 2026-2029

About the project

ViteLyst is a new weekly learning programme at VilVite – Bergen Science Centre for primary school pupils with high learning potential who need greater academic challenges. The programme aims to create a learning environment where curiosity, creativity and a love of learning can grow, and where pupils can explore, deepen their understanding and work creatively together with others.

ViteLyst will mainly combine mathematics, science, social studies, and arts and crafts in interdisciplinary learning activities. Through hands-on exploration, problem-solving, open-ended tasks and creative processes, pupils will work with complex questions where there is not always one correct answer. The aim is not to give pupils more of the same or move them faster through the curriculum, but to allow them to go deeper, think more broadly, make connections across subjects and develop their own ideas.

The social learning community is equally important. ViteLyst will provide a safe and inclusive environment where pupils can meet peers who share their curiosity, interests and ways of thinking and learning. There should be room to ask big questions, think differently, make mistakes and try again.

The pilot starts in January 2027 and will offer 24 places. With support from Grieg Foundation, VilVite will develop and test the programme, gaining experience with the target group, content, teaching methods, organisation and collaboration. These experiences will form the basis for further development of ViteLyst, with the ambition of making the programme available to more pupils in the future. We hope ViteLyst will inspire lasting curiosity, confidence and learning.

About the organization

VilVite – Bergen Science Centre is a science centre dedicated to inspiring curiosity, exploration and a love of learning. Through interactive exhibitions, educational programmes and hands-on activities, VilVite creates engaging learning experiences for children, young people, families and schools.

Our aim is to make science and learning accessible, relevant and inspiring. Visitors are encouraged to explore, experiment, ask questions and discover how science connects to everyday life. VilVite also works closely with schools and educators, offering learning activities that support curiosity, creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving.

In addition to its exhibitions, VilVite develops educational programmes, events and collaborative projects together with schools, universities, research communities and other partners. By combining knowledge, play and active participation, VilVite seeks to create meaningful learning experiences and strengthen interest in science, technology and learning.

We want every visit to encourage new questions, new ideas and a lasting desire to keep exploring, discovering and learning together.
