A Journey of Empowerment
A 24-year old female student from Afghanistan
I never imagined that a single course could open so many doors, but that’s exactly what happened when I joined a finance course at Stockholm University.
In a country where women are deprived of education, this opportunity was a huge step for me. I put everything into the course and was proud to finish with a perfect score and an A. Shortly after, I was offered a position as an SI Leader for the next finance course at Stockholm University. Although I couldn’t accept the role due to a scheduling conflict, being considered was incredibly motivating. It gave me a strong sense of responsibility and encouraged me to support others in their academic journey whenever I can.
As a BBA student with a concentration in Finance at the American University of Afghanistan, this course really helped me deepen my understanding of finance and boosted my academic performance. But it was more than just the academics, it gave me the chance to connect with students from Sweden and other parts of the world. As we live in a place where access to global academic networks is limited, this experience truly opened my eyes and expanded my perspective, which I’m sure will be valuable as I would like to pursue my master’s abroad in the future.
Furthermore, being part of this program opened another great opportunity for me. Through a link shared in our Finance course WhatsApp group, I came across a role at Amala, a UK-based organization that provides education to displaced youth. I have successfully passed the process and am currently working as an educator, which allows me to give back to the community and reminds me of the support I have received in my journey.
As an Afghan woman, I know how difficult it is to access quality education, especially in-person learning. But this opportunity proved that with the right support, dreams are within reach. I hope more Afghan women can receive similar chances to grow, learn, and lead.
I carry this experience with pride and am committed to using it to empower others.
